In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare has used multiple different themes to develop the story. One of the main themes I have found that Shakespeare used was parental rule. In the play the parents ruling over their children is the reason for all of the deaths that occurred throughout the story. Although this is dated all the way back to the 1500's, it can relate to many teenage lives today. Today every teenager has their disagreements with their parents and even though most do not end in death some can end in cruel ways as well. Parents tends to be overly opinionated when it comes to who their children are dating or their children's abilities at school or who their children have become friends with. In addition, parents also tend to push their children over the limit to the point where it creates stress or arguments between them which is very similar to the play. Shakespeare, writing this all of those years ago has somehow found a way to relate the parental rule theme of the story to the relationship of typical teenagers and their parents in today's society.
